Clarification of Behavior
A clarification of behavior describes an instance of functionality that has been reported as an issue, but is in fact working as designed.
In Word 2013, when the user's view is set to Show Special Characters, non-breaking hyphens will be displayed as a square. This is the same character that is displayed if a font is unable to display a character. Turning Show Special Characters off, displays the non-breaking hyphen as expected. In future versions of Word, Microsoft may change how it displays the non-breaking hyphen when Show Special Characters is turned on.
