Document Linker

Use the Document Linker tool to automate the creation of hypertext links and bookmarks that point to an external file (PDF and any other documents).

The Document Linker enables you to select a file name in a document and create a link and/or a bookmark that resolves to a file with the same name as the one you have selected. For example, if you choose the word abc.pdf in a document named 111.pdf and create a link or a bookmark, you would be required to select the folder which contains the file with the name abc.pdf. In the 111.pdf document, if you click on the word abc.pdf, it will open the external document abc.pdf. This is particularly useful if you have a table that references a list of file names that you want to convert to links.

To create links and bookmarks using Document Linker:

  1. Select SmartDesk > Link and Bookmark Tools > Document Linker.
This brings up the cross hair.
  2. Use the cross hair to select the word and select the following options as required:
    • Create Links
    • Create Bookmarks
    • Only Create Links/Bookmarks for Text with a File Extension
  3. Click Destination Folder, browse and select the folder which contains the file with the name same as that you have selected using the cross hair.
  4. Select the necessary Document Linker options.
  5. Click OK.
Note: While creating links/bookmarks in multiple pages with tables, make sure to select the entire column from the top of the page to the bottom. Select the column that contains filenames only.
