Set an Okta Session Timeout

Okta controls the session timeout through the Administration account. By default, the timeout is set to two hours. Perform this procedure to change the default value.

An Okta account is required. If you do not already have one, proceed to the Okta Developer Sign Up site, and create an account.
To change the Okta session timeout:
  1. Login to the Okta developers site using the URL provided when you created your account.

    The Developer's Console appears.

  2. In the top left of the menu bar, select Classic UI.
    The Classic UI interface appears.

  3. In the Okta menu bar, click Security > Authentication.
  4. On the Authentication page, click on the Sign On tab.
  5. In the Default Policy area, click the Add Rule button ().
    The Add Rule window appears.

  6. In the Add Rule window, enter the following information and click Create Rule.
    Field Name Setting
    Rule Name Enter a name for the rule.

    Example: My Okta Session Timeout

    Session expires after Enter a numerical value and select:
    • Minutes
    • Hours
    • Days
    Your rule will become active and override the default setting.
