Using Liquent SmartLink for Word

Using Linking add-in (Word), you can find a word or phrase in your document and link it to another location in the same document or a location in a different document. You can conduct a simple search or use various advanced features.

If you are using Documentum as your Document Management System, the SmartLink user must have Modify access to the Documentum folder on the local host where Linking add-in (Word) is running.

Advanced features include:

  • Find Options – Using the advanced find options you can choose the search direction to match the case of the search term, to find only whole words, to use wildcards, to find all forms of a word, and to exclude or include specific styles.
  • Viewing PDF Bookmarks – If the target document is a PDF file or has a PDF rendition, you can view and link to the bookmarks in the document.
  • Comments – Authors can include links with comments to notify the publisher of the intended link targets when the target documents are created or included in the publication.
  • Internal Styles for Internal Link – You can link to a specific style based on the styles in the template.
  • Setting Search Folders – Linking add-in (Word) searches the files in these folders for a file name resembling or matching the search text. You can also search subfolders within the selected folders.
  • Using Command Files – Command files are saved link definitions that can be run against different documents.
Warning: Do not edit Linking add-in (Word) hyperlinks outside of Linking add-in (Word). If you edit Linking add-in (Word) hyperlinks outside of Linking add-in (Word), the links may become corrupted and no longer work. Only modify Linking add-in (Word) hyperlinks using Linking add-in (Word).
