External Link Targets

External links are created in a Word document using Linking add-in (Word) and target to different documents.

When you search for text to create external links, a list of recently used documents is displayed. You can link to one of these documents or select a new document for the link target. If the document is a PDF file or has a PDF rendition, you can link to a bookmark or to a specific page. External documents work only in the output published from Calyx RIM.

If you create external links in Word and then render the document to PDF outside of Calyx RIM, the links will be invalid. The invalid links are a result of Calyx RIM database-dependent links that are generated by the rendering tools (Acrobat PDFMaker - Word's built-in PDF feature, or LES Watch Manager) you might use when publishing outside of Calyx RIM.
