Associate an Active Ingredient with a Component

This procedure to associate an active ingredient with a product component applies to pharmaceutical, pharmaceutical-medical device, and veterinary component types.

Medical devices do not require active ingredient concentrations.  Flu Vaccines do require the association of strains to the product component but will associate the type of strain along with the concentration measures in the product detail set.

Active ingredient creation process features:
  • When associating an active ingredient, you can enter Strength values only for those ingredients that you want to see under a component.
  • Not all values are required to be populated. However, if you enter at least one Strength value for an active ingredient, you must enter some associated values as well. For example, if you selected Concentration Measure Type, you must enter the Low Amount Numerator Value and Low Amount Numerator Unit to save the changes.
To associate an active ingredient with a component:
  1. Click the link for the component that you want to associate with an active ingredient.
  2. Click the Active Ingredients tab.
  3. Click Create.
    The Create Active Ingredients page opens. Under Strengths, all active ingredients associated with the related product family are available for association with the component.
  4. For each active ingredient that you want to associate with the component, type values for active ingredient concentration and measure fields.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Save. to save the active ingredient settings.
    • Save and Add Reference Active Ingredient, to save your settings and create a new reference active ingredient.
    • Save and Add New Component, to save your settings and create a new component.
    When Active Ingredient is saved, you are automatically returned to the Component attributes page.
