Replace a Manufacturer PDS Project

You can use the Global Project Planning (GPP) wizard to replace an approved manufacturer in the PDSs with a new manufacturer. When you replace an approved manufacturer using the GPP wizard, the manufacturer is replaced in each instance that it appears as Approved in the PDSs you choose to modify.

The following conditions apply to the Replace Manufacturer function:

  • You cannot replace an approved manufacturer unless the approved manufacturer is assigned in at least one location in every PDS associated with the project.
  • The new manufacturers available for selection are all active and inactive manufacturers set up by the data administrator. Only manufacturers that have an active association to the component, manufacturing process, packaging, or function will be replaced in the PDS.
  • The GPP wizard lists all manufacturers saved in the system as available replacements. However, manufacturers that have a Pending or Approved status at the selected component, manufacturing process, packaging, or function will not be replaced.

Note: The procedure below is a continuation of the Update Product Detail Sets project in the GPP wizard. The procedure presented in Creating an Update Product Detail Set Project must be initiated first.To replace a manufacturer from the Select Action page of the GPP wizard:

  1. Select Replace Manufacturer on the Select Action page.
  2. Click Next.The Select Manufacturers page appears.
  3. On the Select Manufacturers page, do the following:
    1. Select the approved manufacturer that you want to replace.
    2. Select the new manufacturer.
  4. Click Next.The Perform Another PDS Action page appears.
  5. Do one of the following:
    Action Description
    Yes Perform another update PDS action.
    No Proceed to the Summary page of the GPP wizard.
  6. Click Next.One of the following occurs:
    Action Description
    Yes Select Yes in step 5 and you return to the Select Action page of the GPP wizard.
    No Select No in step 5 and the Summary page appears. Go to step 7.
  7. On the Summary page, do one of the following:
    Action Description
    Select the project link on the Summary page You can Review the newly created project.
    Click Finish You are returned to the view from which you invoked the GPP wizard.

    Upon completion, the approved manufacturer you chose to replace is assigned a Pending Withdrawal status in the PDS. The new manufacturer status in the PDS is Pending Add.

  8. To view the project after closing the GPP wizard, click Home > Projects.
  9. Click the link for the project you just created to open the Project Attributes page.
  10. Navigate to the PDS to view the modified details.
